Kurtz announced his bid to run for office in the 50th Assembly District. This comes on the heels of the announcement by Republican Ed Brooks that he would not seek re-election in the district that covers parts of Monroe, Vernon, Richland, Sauk and Juneau counties.

Brooks is the 10th state Republican lawmaker to announce plans not to seek office again this fall.

On the Democratic side for the 50th district, Art Shrader is the candidate. He lost to Brooks 14,775 to 10,762 in the 2016 election.
